Highways in Moga

Moga has been designated the distinction of a city in the state of Punjab. It is the headquarters of the Moga District which gained recognition on 24th November 1995. The chief benefactor of this endeavor is the Chief Minister then, Sri Harcharan Singh Brar. The move to make Moga a separate district took it away from the Faridkot District of which it was a part earlier. Now, flourishing under the Ferozpur Division, Moga has risen both in importance and in size by the inclusion of Dharamkot Block which comprise of 150 villages.

One can find the Moga town on the National Highway 95(NH-95), the Ferozpur-Ludhiana Road. It along with the National Highway 71 serves as a crucial lifeline for the people of Moga and all those who come to Moga.

National Highway 71

This National Highway in Northern India runs a distance of 307 kilometers in the state of Punjab and about 177 kilometers in the state of Haryana. It begins from Jalandhar in Punjab and goes on till Rewari in Haryana where it connects with National Highway 8.

The National Highway 71 can be best described as the lifeline of the existing towns and cities in both Punjab and Haryana. There are endless buses and private and other forms of public transport that traverse between various points which make for a steady stream of traffic in the important Highway. The cause of concern had been the Rewari- Bawal road which had been very hassling because of congestion in the town through which the Highway route passes.

Existing NH71 Route

The existing NH71 route covers all the given towns in Punjab and Haryana in the same order. The first prominent town which can be accessed through the NH71 Highway is the Nakodar followed by Moga, Barnala, Dhanaula, Sangrur, Khanauri and Narwana. Beyond this, it also passes through Jind, Rohtak, Dighal, and Jhajjar and then concludes at Rewari.

Government’s Role in Improving Highways

The Government has been making huge strides in making the roads of the Highway safe, navigable and smooth for the people who travel here. Owing to the bad condition of roads, there has been a new construction of a four lane road which proposes a new stretch of 82.5 kilometers from Rohtak to Rewari. This would felicitate the alignment of the roads and the resultant route would then be Jhajjar- Rewari- Sangwadi which would be an improvement over the Jhajjar- Rewari- Bawal route.

For the improvement, constructions and maintenance of the Highways, the state and the central Governments often combine resources to bring about the desired changes. Furthermore, there has been a huge sum of money sanctioned by the World Bank to improve the roads and Highways of 6 Indian Sates. The States hoping to benefit with this money are Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, West Bengal and Punjab. Therefore with the allotted money, the Governments aims and hopes to bring about landmark changes in the overall development of Highways in the area. This way it would be able to cater better to the countless people who travel by roads.
